- Make a list of must-haves when choosing a hotel, Airbnb, campsite, etc. Don’t settle, you’ll be happier.
- Call ahead of arrival to confirm your reservations. People f-up all the time so it won’t hurt to triple check that you have two separate beds and an actual toilet inside the room.
- Bring snacks… For the plane, in case the all-inclusive somehow doesn’t serve food between 4-7 pm, and just in case you get tired of the available cuisine. Your snacks will come in handy if you get a stomach bug.
- Hydrate before you head out for the day’s activities, during the all-day drinking at the pool, and after that international club experience. There’s nothing worse than being hungover and hot.
- Bring small bills.
- Just don’t get anything with ice. Don’t eat anything that was left out. Don’t eat where livestock and wild animals roam freely- your first-world gut can’t handle third-world specialties.
- Bring flip flops. Chances are you’ll live in them, and you don’t want to go home with toenail fungus.
- Make friends with housekeeping. Clean towels and fresh sheets are like gold when on vacation.
- Make sure the toilet can actually flush before you uh…yea.
- Ask reception to make copies of your passport and the stamp from customs. If you don’t travel with your passport, be sure to bring the copy with you at all times.
- Change the safe password daily. And don’t make the password any personal info you used to make the reservation.
- Make a group code for safety. You can also use it when you need help escaping unwanted attention from new “friends.”
